For this renovation, the Owners asked for a contemporary counterpoint to their cottage-style home. The addition, comprising an expanded Kitchen and a new Principle Suite, uses the same exterior cladding to connect itself to the original house. Its form, however, explores a more contemporary execution, allowing for vaulted ceilings and large areas of glass, which fill the new spaces with warm daylight. The offset between the Kitchen and the new Principle Suite creates an welcoming outdoor patio area, ideal for large parties or evenings relaxing. To complement the Owner’s existing furniture and tastes, we selected a mix of walnut veneers and painted cabinetry with a mid-century details for the doors, hardware and lighting.
