Challenged by constraints required for zoning and building access, this configuration of seven townhomes had no additional space available to create protruding bays and balconies that often adorn the facades of townhouses. Instead, this design begins with a tightly constrained three-story massing, from which a two-story porch and balcony space is carved out to provide an entry point to each unit. Spaced at a regular distance, this series of voids create a visual rhythm that breaks up the face of the building to provide visual interest on an otherwise monolithic building. By combining this simple design with a refined material pallete of brick, wood, and steel, 7xWOOD becomes a townhouse fit for any urbanite.
