Accessory dwelling units are increasingly becoming a rental housing solution and source of supplemental income for single family homeowners in cities around the country, and Salt Lake City recently loosened their zoning requirements to make them more permissible. Working with a local General Contractor, Built By Design, we’ve developed some prototype designs based on the city’s smallest R-1 zoned lots. Depending on the specific property conditions, the prototypes could be constructed as designed or with some revisions to address parking needs, existing structures, driveways, and alleys locations. Three basic Plan Types (1.ADU Only/No Garage, 2. Garage with ADU/Sleeping Loft, and 3. ADU over Garage) have three different Exterior Styles applied to them.
