This early 1900s brick bungalow in the Avenues has some modern updates both inside and out, expertly made by its designer owner. But the existing rear stair addition was in disrepair and in need of replacement to match the character of the main structure. On a tight site with nonconforming setbacks, the solution is to remove and rebuild the addition with a code compliant stair all within the exact footprint of the original. This new space connects the Main Level Kitchen to the Lower Level Living Space with a light-filled volume that is stair, storage, and display. The new stair layout arrives at a mid-landing just above the existing rear Patio, creating a better visual and physical connection to the revised rear yard.
