Temporary. Outdoor. Gallery. Space. These terms help shape the architectural expression of an experience. And creating an experience is where the power of architecture lies. As a result, the TOGS is thought of as a cooperative of many artists within many modules rather than as small individual units with little or no relationship to one another.
Each TOGS Co-op is created specifically to enhance the experience of a particular art medium that could include painting, sculpture, digital, and performance. The painting and printed media co-op allows patrons to view works up close and in an intimate setting. The sculpture co-op encourages the exploration of a patron’s three-dimensional relationship to a piece by affording multiple vantage points. The digital media co-op controls lighting within a non-traditional context. The performance co-op creates an unconventional theater-in-the-round that blurs the boundary between street performance and formal theater. The TOGS Co-ops are unique to each media, affording experiences unlike those found in a typical gallery.
